Prizewinners Announced at the 2024 Kreutzer International Music Competition
Jieun Son of South Korea won the senior solo violin category
The second edition of the Kreutzer International Music Competition was held in Ghent, Belgium from August 6-10, 2024. Open to young solo violinists and chamber groups (strings and piano only), the competition caters to players of all nationalities and is founded in memory of Rodolphe Kreutzer.
The results are as follows:
Violin Category A (12 and under)
- First Prize: Yibo Wen, China
- Second Prize: Pranciskus Kurauskas, Lithuania
- Third Prize: shared between Sara Kazama (Japan) and Felix Zeng (USA)
Violin Category B (17 and under)
- First Prize: Youngwoo Choi, South Korea
- Second Prize: Elisabeth Pihusch, Germany
- Third Prize: Mark Lev Krajnc, Slovenia
Violin Category C (33 and under)
- First Prize: Jieun Son, South Korea
- Second Prize: Sunjae Ok, South Korea
- Third Prize: Petre Abraham Smeu, Romania
Chamber Music Category A (18 and under)
- First Prize: Duo Bernadel, Germany
- Second Prize: Mofi Sisters, USA
- Third Prize: Golden Strings, China
Chamber Music Category B (19 and above, no age limit)
- First Prize: not awarded
- Second Prize: shared between the Freytag Trio (Germany) and Duo Baron-Fleury (France)
- Third Prize: Duo Marni, France
The prizewinners received more than €13,000 in prize money, with €1,000 being awarded to the winners of the top categories.
In 2024, the jury comprised Yuri Zhislin (President), Hrachya Avanesyan, Nicolas Dupont, Pieter Jansen, David Makhmudov, Yannick van de Velde, Yi Wang, Huiming Wen, and Yi Zhong.
