Remembering Lucien Capet - The Grandfather of Modern Violin Pedagogy [ON-THIS-DAY]
Revolutionary French violin pedagogue and composer Lucien Capet was born on this day in 1873.
He served a long-term teaching position at the Société Sainte-Cécile de Bordeaux - during which time he researched, developed and published his authoritative 'Superior Bowing Technique' treatise.
Professor Capet's notable students included two of the most influential violin educators of all time - Jascha Brodsky and Ivan Galamian.
Jascha Brodsky's students include: Hilary Hahn, Leila Josefowicz, Joey Corpus, Juliette Kang and Judith Ingolfsson.
Ivan Galamian's students include: Michael Rabin, Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Sally Thomas, Kyung-Wha Chung, Glenn Dicterow, David Nadien, Erick Friedman, Jaime Laredo, Arnold Steinhardt, Charles Castleman, Miriam Fried, James Buswell, Sergiu Luca, Ani Kavafian, Ida Kavafian, Chin Kim, Eugene Fodor, Berl Senofsky and Dong-Suk Kang.
