Robert Schumann’s Violin Concerto in D Minor premiered on this day in 1937 – 80 years after the composer's death.

The first performance was given by German virtuoso Georg Kulenkampff with the Berlin Philharmonic.

The work was written in 1853 for Hungarian violinist Joseph Joachim - yet laid dormant in the Prussian State Library archives.
