Semifinalists Announced at the Bartók World Competition
Twelve young violinists will compete for the prize pool of €44,000
Held at the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest's Bartók World Competition runs from September 3 -10 and offers a total prize fund of €46,000.
32 young players from 16 different countries were invited to appear in the first round, and these players had already been chosen from 97 applicants.
The competition's compulsory repertoire focuses on Bartók’s most important pieces for violin, but contestants are also required to demonstrate their skills by playing works by Bach, Paganini, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, Schubert, Mozart, Beethoven, Prokofiev, Brahms, Debussy, Lutosławski or Stravinsky, among others.

In 2023, the jury is comprised of Stephan Picard, Daniel Phillips, Maxim Rysanov, Roland Daugareil, Yayoi Toda, Kristóf Baráti, Gyula Fekete, Péter Halász, and András Keller.
