Tenor Christopher Macchio Selected to Sing National Anthem at Trump's Inauguration
Macchio joins a line of inauguration singers that includes Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Jessye Norman
Christopher Macchio, a tenor from Long Island, New York, has been chosen to sing The Star-Spangled Banner at the upcoming inauguration of Donald Trump. The 46-year-old classical crossover vocalist first came to Trump's attention when he was a last-minute substitute at the Mar-a-Lago New Year's Eve gala more than ten years ago.
Since then, Macchio has sung at many Trump rallies and events, as well as at the funeral of Robert Trump.
Lady Gaga had the honor of singing the national anthem at President Biden’s 2021 swearing-in ceremony, with Beyoncé and the late Jessye Norman as previous performers.
Macchio studied at the Manhattan School of Music, and his career began in earnest when he appeared in a concert special for PBS Television. He later made appearances on Fox, ABC, NBC, and RAI International. An actor as well as a singer, Macchio has appeared in two Hollywood movies, Don Q (2023) and Cabrini (2024).
He has also released two albums, titled Dolci Momenti and Oh Holy Night.
Macchio's repertoire stretches from classical arias, to Italian folk classics, to Broadway songs, to songs by Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban.
"[Unity] is a primary goal of mine, to deliver a performance that can hopefully have that kind of effect and make people really proud to be a citizen of this great country," Macchio said of the appearance.
