Lithuanian theremin virtuoso Clara Rockmore was born on this day in 1911 – 107 years ago.

A violin child prodigy, she studied with acclaimed pedagogue Leopold Auer before transferring her learnings to the theremin – an electronic musical instrument, invented in the 1920s, controlled by oscillating metal antenna hand proximity.
