VC Artist Attacca Quartet Signs with Platoon
The quartet will record the Ravel String Quartet for the label, with a disc of works by Paul Wiancko to follow
VC Artist the Attacca Quartet has announced that they have signed with Platoon, and will begin their relationship with the label by making a recording of the Ravel String Quartet for release in March of 2025. They will also appear in the label's new concert series, Platoon Presents at Kings Place.
A further endeavor will see the quartet record the works of Paul Wiancko, cellist of the Kronos Quartet — a project that the quartet says they have been "wanting to do for years."
Comprising violinists Amy Schroeder and Domenic Salerni, violist Nathan Schram and cellist Andrew Yee, the Attacca Quartet won first prize at the Osaka, Melbourne, and Coleman Chamber Music Competitions.
The quartet has served as Juilliard's Graduate Resident String Quartet, the Quartet in Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Ensemble-in-Residence at the School of Music at Texas State University.
Firmly committed to new music, the ensemble have been particular champions of the composer Caroline Shaw — releasing two acclaimed discs of her works, Evergreen (2022) and Orange (2019).
"We are happy to officially announce we have signed with Platoon," the quartet said in a statement. "Their vision and their trust in our vision are so exciting to us, and we are starting our relationship with a recording of a piece we have been playing since the beginning of Attacca — the Ravel Quartet. It’s the reason a few of us decided to be chamber musicians in the first place, and we are so happy to have a recorded version for you all to hear on March 14th, just in time for his 150th birthday!"
"So happy to be in the Platoon family, and we can’t wait to see where it goes!"
