Released on Naïve Records, the album features works by Francis Poulenc, Arvo Pärt, and Sergei Prokofiev
VC Artist and Violinist Paul Huang has released his newest album, Mirrors, on Naïve Records in collaboration with pianist Helen Huang.
Mirrors serves as the duo's second release on Naïve, the first being Kaleidoscope in 2023. To purchase and listen to the album, click here.
The duo has worked together for a decade exploring the repertoire for violin and piano and now celebrate their collaboration with an album that resembles a game of mirroring.
The album includes Francis Poulenc's Violin Sonata, FP 119, and Sergei Prokofiev's Violin Sonata Op. 80 No. 1 in F minor. In between these two sonatas is Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel. The two violin sonatas were composed during World War 2 in the 20th century, while Spiegel im Spiegel resembles a moment of introspection and reflection.
Poulenc's Sonata was dedicated to Spanish poet Federico García Lorca as a response to fascism and Prokofiev's Sonata was inspired by the War. Through vivid contrasts, fleeting melodies, and evocative textures, these works reflect the chaos and hope of their times.
