French violin maker Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume died on this day in 1875.

Widely regarded as one of the eminent instrument makers of all time, Vuillaume’s violins have been the instrument of choice of many notable violinists in history – including Henri Vieuxtemps, Joseph Joachim, Eugène Ysaÿe, Fritz Kreisler, Ruggiero Ricci, Henryk Szeryng and Arthur Grumiaux.
