Violin Society of America Opens Applications for Spring 2025 Grants
Grants of $1,000 to $10,000 are available to VSA members working on publications, research, and education
The Violin Society of America (VSA) has opened its Spring 2025 grant round, and invites project proposals from individuals, groups, or organizations. In this round of grants, the VSA is particularly interested in projects that go beyond its traditional methods, and that benefit both VSA members the Society's wider community.
To apply, you must be a member of the VSA. Projects should have a component that is related to publications, research, and education, though projects need not be limited to these domains.
In the 2024 rounds, $22,000 worth of grant funding was approved for VSA members. 2024 grant recipient Luca Jost received grant funding for a research project on alternative fingerboard materials, having noted that the global supply of ebony is rapidly diminishing. As part of the project, he has been investigating the abrasion resistance of commercially available alternative fingerboard materials, to develop our understanding of how fingerboards might age over the length of an instrument's life.
At the initial stage, a detailed application is not required; applicants should instead submit a brief Letter of Inquiry outlining the project, and they will be invited to provide further detail if the project aligns well with the VSA's objectives.
Most grantees will receive a sum of between $1,000 and $10,000, and funding from other organizations may be required in order to complete the project.
The deadline for Letters of Inquiry is March 1, 2025. You can find out more about the application process on the VSA's website.
