Italian-British violin virtuoso Gioconda de Vito died on this day in 1994.
Ms de Vito was a former 1st prize winner at the Vienna International Violin Competition, and is remembered as one of Europe’s foremost concert artists of the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
She retired completely from performing and teaching aged just 54, and passed away in 1994 – aged 87.
