Polish-born Mexican violin virtuoso, diplomat, pedagogue and philanthropist Henryk Szeryng was born on this day in 1918 – 98 years ago.
A student of Maurice Frenkel, Carl Flesch and Jacques Thibaud, Maestro Szeryng is remembered as one of the pre-eminent violinists of all time – praised for his sterling musicianship, innate interpretive qualities, tone, colour and broad musical lines.
He passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage in 1988 – aged 69.
