Polish-born Mexican violin virtuoso Henryk Szeryng died on this day in 1988.
A student of Maurice Frenkel, Carl Flesch and Jacques Thibaud, he is widely regarded as one of the finest musicians of the 20th Century – remembered for his sterling musicianship, discernment and humanitarianism.
He died unexpectedly from a cerebral hemorrhage whilst on tour in Germany – aged just 69.
