Canadian-born American violinist Betty-Jean Hagen has passed away – aged 86.
A graduate of the Chicago Conservatory, Royal Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School, Ms Hagen was a former 1st prize winner at the coveted Leventritt Competition.
She held a longterm faculty position at Vassar College – and served as Concertmaster of the Westchester Symphony, Woodstock Chamber Orchestra and the Orange Country Chamber Orchestra.
She was awarded Canadian Music’s 1953 ‘Woman of the Year’ – and for much of her career performed on the 1771 ‘Baron Hermann’ Guadagnini violin.
Our condolences are with Ms Hagen’s family, friends, colleagues and students.
