Italian violinist and composer Gaetano Pugnani died on this day in 1798.

He is remembered in history, as violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler borrowed his name to publish a number of show pieces, including ‘Praeludium and Allegro’ and ‘Tempo di Minuetto’ – only later revealing the works to be his own.
