Moravian-Jewish violinist and composer Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst was born on this day in 1812 – 205 years ago.
Ernst is remembered in history as one of the great violin virtuosi of all time – often referenced as ‘Paganini’s greatest successor’.
He composed a large number of virtuosi bravura show works – including his signature ‘Variations on The Last Rose of Summer’.
