A student of Carl Flesch and George Enescu, she is widely respected as one of the preeminent virtuosi violinist of the 20th Century

Polish-British-Canadian violinist Ida Haendel was born on this day in 1928.

A recognized child prodigy she was awarded 7th prize in the 1935 Wieniawski International Violin Competition, aged just 7.
