18-year-old VC Young Artist Johan Dalene has been awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition
18-year-old VC Young Artist Johan Dalene from Sweden has just minutes ago been awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition - in Odense, Denmark.
A student of Per Enoksson at the Stockholm Royal College of Music, Johan is a former major prize winner at the Kocian, Thomas and Evon Cooper and Menuhin International Violin Competitions.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to: 21-year-old Marie-Astrid Hulot from France and 22-year-old Anna Agafia Egholm from Denmark.
"I am of course very happy ... and i feel so grateful and honoured to have been awarded this top prize ..." Johan has said.
"I want to thank my fellow finalists and i just say what a truely amazing time I've had here in Odense this week," he has said.
Open to international violinists 29 years and younger, Johan will receive €12,000 (USD $14,000), a recording with the Orchid Classics label – plus at least 10 important orchestral and festival performance opportunities.

The prize for the 'Best Interpretation of Sally Beamish's new-piece Prealudium and Allegro for Solo Violin' in the opening round of this year's competition was awarded to Anna Agafia Egholm.
The 2019 jury comprised: Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider (Competition President), Eugen Tichindeleanu, Albena Danailova, Sergey Khachatryan, Nurit Bar-josef, Sally Beamish, Ingrid Fliter, Kathryn Enticott and Tobias Niederschlag.
Previous prize winners include: Kathleen Winkler, Joji Hattori, Nikolaj Znaider, Jennifer Koh, Pekka Kuusisto, Adele Anthony, Hrachya Avanesyan – and VC Artists Josef Spacek, Ji Won Song and Luke Hsu.
