Lisa Batiashvili Withdraws from Concerts with Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia
The violinist, who has withdrawn for health reasons, will be replaced by Clara-Jumi Kang
Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili has withdrawn from three appearances with the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, in Rome, Italy, and conductor Daniel Harding for health reasons. The concerts were due to take place on November 28, 29, and 30, 2024.
The orchestra has announced that Batiashvili will be replaced by the Korean violinist Clara-Jumi Kang, who will play Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 as originally scheduled. The other works on the program are Debussy's Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and Brahms's Symphony No. 2.
Currently Artist-in-Residence at the Berliner Philharmoniker, Batiashvili recently performed Brahms’ Violin Concerto at the orchestra's annual Europakonzert, also under the baton of Daniel Harding.
Batiashvili records exclusively for Deutsche Grammophon, and her most recent album Secret Love Letters was released in August 2022, with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra. It also includes a performance of the Franck Sonata with Giorgi Gigashvili.
The Violin Channel extends our well wishes to Lisa Batiashvili!
Clara-Jumi Kang made her concerto debut with the Hamburg Symphony at the age of five. In recent years she has appeared with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, and Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, among others.
Kang won First Prize at the Indianapolis International Violin Competition, Sendai Violin Competition, and Seoul Violin Competition, and her teachers included Zakhar Bron, Dorothy DeLay, and NamYun Kim.
