Violinist Rosa Fain has Died, Age 96
Fain was a pupil of David Oistrakh at the Moscow Conservatoire
Born in Odesa in 1929, Fain studied violin with David Oistrakh at the Moscow Conservatoire in addition to Pyotr Stolyarsky and Benjamin Mordkovich at the Odesa Conservatory.
In 1957, she won multiple competitions including the 3rd Wieniawski Violin Competition, and in 1979, she began teaching at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.
In addition to playing as a soloist of the Kyiv Philharmonic for two years, she also taught masterclasses internationally.
Throughout her career, she served as a jury member for the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition, the International Leopold Mozart Competition, and the ARD Competition.
Among many former students writing their thanks on social media, Katharina Kang Litton wrote, "I’m saddened by the passing of my beloved teacher and mentor Rosa Fain. I would never be the person and musician I am without her and her passionate dedication and love. She was a true force of nature and inspiration. She will always be in my heart as long as I live and I’ll always be grateful and honored for what we shared."
