HUNTLY, NEW ZEALAND – Australian violinist Stephen Phillips has been killed in a tragic car accident, in Huntly, New Zealand – aged 54.

Mr Phillips had served as a 1st violinist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, in Brisbane, Australia since 1987.

His two stepsons, aged 14 and 12 were also killed in the crash – when the family’s rental car collided with a delivery truck, whilst holidaying in New Zealand.

Stephen’s partner, violist Belinda Williams and 9 year old stepdaughter remain in Waikato Hospital in a stable condition. 

“The thoughts, prayers and love from everyone at the Queensland Symphony Orchestra are today with the family of our much loved First Violinist Stephen Phillips and his partner Belinda Williams, who often played Viola with the QSO”,  Symphony Chairman Greg Wanchap has said.

Our condolences are with the Phillips and Williams families, friends, colleagues and students.
