Polish-born American violinist and conductor Szymon Goldberg died on this day in 1993 – aged 84.
A student of Carl Flesch, he served as Concertmaster of the Dresden Philharmonic and the Berliner Philharmoniker – and held distinguished teaching positions at Yale University, The Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music and the Manhattan School of Music.
