Wales' Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama Appoints Visiting Chair of Cello
Cellist Jacob Shaw will serve in the role
The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) in Cardiff, Wales, has announced Jacob Shaw as the visiting international chair of cello.
During the academic year, Shaw will visit the school to teach lessons, coaching, and workshops.
Born in London, Shaw received his early musical education at the UK's Yehudi Menuhin School, before pursuing further cello studies with Geneviève Teulières-Sommer at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. He has also studied at the Hochschule für Musik Augsburg and the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
He is the founder of the Scandinavian Cello School, a foundation that supports, promotes, and educates young cellists. In addition, Shaw created a boutique consultancy, which works with labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Warner Classics, and Universal Music.
Shaw also served as the Director of Culture at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stevns Klint.
"It’s such an exciting opportunity to collaborate with this beautiful school and its vibrant musical community," said Shaw.
"After so many years away from the UK, it feels amazing to reconnect and deepen my contribution to music education across the country - this new visiting role in Wales perfectly complements my regular role with the cellists of the RNCM in Manchester as professor of cello," he added.
