Austrian violinist and conductor Willi Boskovsky died on this day in 1991 – aged 81.

Maestro Boskovsky served as Concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra from 1936 to 1979 – and is best remembered as the long-standing conductor of the Vienna New Year’s Concert.
