Winners Announced at Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation
Two groups have received the ensemble prize with €75,000 to extend their professional work in contemporary music.
Established in 1972 and based in Munich, the Ernst von Siemens (EvS) Music Foundation promotes contemporary music internationally and its first music prize was awarded to composer Benjamin Britten.
Its ensemble prize was introduced in 2020 and is awarded annually to two emerging contemporary music ensembles whose majority of members must be aged 35 and under.
The 2025 winners are the Tacet(i) and the lovemusic ensembles, who will both receive a cash prize of €75,000 for their artistic endeavors.
Founded in 2014, Tacet(i) is a leading new music ensemble in Southeast Asia committed to enriching contemporary music in Thailand and abroad. The group collaborates with various artists, composers, and interpreters, and aims to expand the boundaries of sound with their use of the latest technology in their research.
Founded in 2018 and based in France, lovemusic works collaborates with composers and artists to dismantle the hierarchical systems ingrained in the new music world. The group also hopes to create safe and inclusive environments where musicians can have artistic freedom in choosing the music they want to perform, and the composers they wish to work with.
“Taceti is a phenomenal group of young people. Not only talented and kind, but also possessed of an entrepreneurial spirit unmatched in my experience,” said composer Scott Wilson in the press release. “They are surely the hardest working people in show business! They embody an ethos of openness, enthusiasm and inclusivity which is so rare these days, and bring love and integrity to bear on whatever music they play, regardless of style or origin. Tireless and possessed of endless generosity, they are a catalyst for innovation and creativity in Southeast Asia and the world.”
“It is a joy to work with lovemusic — all members have such a personal dedication for contemporary music,” expressed composer Malin Bång. “They are extremely open minded and at the same time also careful with all small details in the music.”
The two winning groups were selected for the prize from a large number of applications from across 15 countries, pizzicato reported. The award ceremony will be held on May 17, 2025, at Munich’s Hercules Hall.
