Winners Announced at Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition
Trio Brontë, Duo Felsberga & Eckhaut, and Piano Duo Kalabova & Gugg received first place in the Piano Trio, Duo Lied, and Piano Duo categories, respectively
The 12th edition of the Franz Schubert and Modern Music Chamber Music Competition is currently taking place at the Kunstuniversität Graz.
The competition was split into three categories and streamed live on The Violin Channel: Piano Trio, Duo Lied for piano and voice, and Piano Duo. The competition is available to watch for playback now!
In the Piano Trio Final, Trio Brontë won first prize, €13,500, and individual career consulting and guidance. The Astatine Trio won second prize and €9,750 and the special prize of €1,500 for the best interpretation of the prizewinning work of the International Piano Trio Composition Competition.
The Bernstein Trio won third prize and € 6,750.
The jury for the Piano trio category included Chia Chou (chair), Vincent Coq, Ellen Margrete Flesjø, Thomas Hoppe, Anssi Karttunen, Minna Pensola, Isabelle van Keulen, and Katharina Wincor.
In the Duo Lied final, Duo Felsberga & Eckhaut won first prize — which includes € 9,000 plus career consulting and guidance — and the € 1,000 prize for the best interpretation of the commissioned work by Annette Schlünz.
Duo Noh & Pfahler won second prize consists of € 6,500, and the € 1,000 Stacey Bartsch Memorial Prize for the best interpretation of a Lied by Franz Schubert or Anselm Hüttenbrenner.
Third prize, € 4,500, went to Duo Ardea.
The jury for the Duo Lied category includes Joseph Breinl (chair), Lina Maria Åkerlund, Iain Burnside, Samuel Hasselhorn, Manuela Kerer, Toby Spence, Pauliina Tukiainen, and Sarah Wegener.
The Piano Duo final will be streamed on February 13 at 3:00 AM (ET), 9:00 AM in Austria.The jury for the Piano duo category includes Sivan Silver-Garburg and Gil Garburg (chairs), Carlo Fabiano, Rico Gulda, Götz Schumacher, Adrienne Soós, Arie Vardi, Lena-Lisa Wüstendörf, and Shani Diluka.
Piano Duo Kalabova & Gugg first prize includes € 9,000 plus individual career advice and support. Książek Piano Duo received second prize and € 6,500, while Beatrice & Eleonora Dallagnese won third prize consisting of € 4,500.
Duo Panova Gobbini received a special prize of € 1,000 given for the best interpretation of a work by a female composer.
