Deutsche Grammophon China has today announced the signing of 21 year old Taiwanese violin virtuoso, VC Young Artist Yu-Chien Benny Tseng.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Ida Kavafian and Aaron Rosand, Benny is a former 1st prize winner at the Sarasate and Isang Yun International Violin Competitions – and was recently awarded top prizes at both the coveted 2015 Singapore and Tchaikovsky International Violin Competitions.
“I'm so excited to have this incredible opportunity to work with such a prestigious label,” Benny has told The Violin Channel.
“I can't remember how many Deutsche Grammophon recordings I own … recordings of my heroes such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Itzhak Perlman, Gil Shaham and Gidon Kremer ... this is a dream come true!” he has said.
Benny’s first solo studio album under the Deutsche Grammophon label, will be recorded in Berlin in October with pianist Rohan de Silva - and is scheduled to feature a selection of celebrated violin and piano works by Mozart, Tartini, Ernst, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Wieniawski.
The album will be recorded on the 1732 "Castelbarco" Guarneri del Gesu - on generous loan from the Chi-Mei Cultural Foundation, in Taiwan.
The signing comes just weeks after it was announced that 15 year old VC Rising Star Daniel Lozakovich will too join the Deutsche Grammophon stable - for an exclusive 'long-term' contract.
