Royal Over-Seas League Announces Pettman Scholarship Recipients
Pianist Otis Prescott-Mason and cellist Jack Moyer will each receive the $15,000 scholarship
London-based Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) and the recently re-designed ROSL Pettman Scholarship aims to provide emerging young New Zealand musicians with the opportunity to travel to the northern hemisphere for various career development opportunities. Valued at $15,000 per student, the scholarship recipients are selected from those chosen to be Emerging Artists at the Queenstown-based At the World's Edge Festival (AWE). They will work in conjunction with ROSL to create a tailored program of career development activities, which might include lessons, workshops, masterclasses, or courses.
In 2023, the recipients of the scholarship are pianist Otis Prescott-Mason and cellist Jack Moyer.
Born in Wellington, Otis Prescott-Mason is currently studying with Jian Liu at the New Zealand School of Music. He is the winner of the Lewis Eady National Piano Competition, having also won its junior division while at secondary school. As a chamber musician, Prescott-Mason has been invited to perform at the New Zealand International Music Festival and the Whakatipu Music Festival.
Cellist Jack Moyer is also based in Wellington, and is a student of NZSO Principal Cello Andrew Joyce. He is the Principal Cello of the Wellington Youth Orchestra and Assistant Principal Cello of the NZSO National Youth Orchestra, and has toured New Zealand with the Amici Ensemble.
