80 Year Old Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos Calls End to Conducting Career
It has been announced today that 80 year Spanish conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos has resigned from his position as Chief Conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and has signalled the end of his conducting career - due to ongoing health issues.
Maestro Frühbeck de Burgos has suffered a number of health problems in recent months – including collapsing during a performance in Washington, in March.
In a letter sent to the Danish National Symphony Orchestra’s Manager Kim Bohm, Maestro Frühbeck de Burgos has indicated, that following medical advice, it is ‘with great sadness I cancel all engagements with the Danish Broadcasting Corporation … [and] the time to wind-up my professional life has come’.
Throughout his 60 year career, Maestro Frühbeck de Burgos has served Principal Conducting positions with the Rundfunkorchester Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, RAI National Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra .
