New Chief Conductor Announced at the Brandenburger Symphoniker
German conductor Andreas Spering will step into the role at the beginning of the 2023/24 season
For an initial five-year contract, German conductor Andreas Spering will be the new Chief Conductor at Germany's Brandenburger Symphoniker.
He was selected from a final-round pool of eleven candidates and stood out as one of Germany's leading specialists in historically informed performance practice.
Spering originally studied with Gerd Zacher in Essen and went on to work as the harpsichordist in Reinhard Goebel's ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln.
He spent the 2021/22 season working with the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg, Orchester des Niedersächischen Staatstheaters Hannover, Beethovenorchester Bonn, and Lapland Chamber Orchestra, among others. He also returned to the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, and led a new production of Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro" at the Opéra National de Lorraine.
Spering is a particular specialist in the music of Joseph Haydn and established Germany's only Haydn Festival during his tenure as Artistic Director of the Brühler Schlosskonzerte. At this festival, Spering has conducted more than 60 Haydn symphonies, as well as eight of the composer's operas and many of the oratorios.
