Applications Open for 2022 Sibelius International Violin Competition

 

To be held in Helsinki from May 18 to 29, 2022, the Sibelius International Violin Competition is open to candidates of any nationality born in or after 1990.

The first prize winner will receive €30,000, a number of important international solo engagements — plus a loan of a fine violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini from Turin dated 1772, kindly loaned by Jane Ng through J & A Beare and the Beare’s International Violin Society.

To be considered for admission, each applicant must submit a series of videos including recording of one movement from a Bach Solo Sonata or Partita, a Paganini Caprice or Ernst's Last Rose of Summer or Erlkonig, the first movement of Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor, and an introductory video.

The first round of the competition will feature 40 violinists who will perform from May 19 to 21, 2022.

The second round will be held from May 23 to 25 featuring 18 participants.

Six competitors will perform in the final round which will be held from May 27-29.

The 2022 jury comprises Sakari Oramo (Chairman), Ilya Kaler, Ida Kavafian, Nam Yun Kim, Henning Kraggerud, Lucie Robert, Daniel Rowland, Elina Vähälä, and Tong Weidong.
