Applications Open for the 5th Hong Kong International Young Musicians Competition
This competition is open to violinists aged 23 and younger, and applications must be received by February 15, 2025
Founded in 2021, the Hong Kong International Young Musicians Competition is chaired and directed by violinist Kirill Troussov. It aims to provide young violinists with a platform to express their creative and artistic abilities plus share their musical thoughts with international competitors.
The 2025 edition will take place from April 14 to 19, at Hong Kong's Tsuen Wan Town Hall. The competition is split into six age groups for the solo category, and two for the chamber music category.
The candidates will be chosen through a pre-selection round, in which participants submit a short video recording of their playing. The repertoire requirements vary based on the age category (and these can be found here); in the senior category (18-23), candidates should submit recordings of two different pieces, not exceeding 18 minutes in total length. These pieces can be used in the subsequent rounds of the competition.
In the senior category, the prize money totals approximately $4,500 USD, spread across the top three candidates. They will also receive other prizes such as PIRASTRO strings and rosin.
In 2025, the jury will comprise Kirill Troussov (chair), Chang Tzu Ti Danny, Feng Jia, HoYoung Pi, Jin Xiaolong, Leung Kin Fung, Qian Zhou, Yang Xiaoyu, Kyoko Takezawa, and Savva Fatkulin.
The deadline for pre-selection is Saturday, February 15, 2025. You can apply here.
