Applications Open for the Philharmonia Composers' Academy for 2025/26
This program offers emerging, diverse composers the opportunity to have their work performed by the Philharmonia at the Royal Festival Hall, among other perks
The London-based Philharmonia Orchestra is now accepting applications for the 2025/26 edition of its Composers' Academy. The Academy is targeted at musicians from diverse backgrounds who are looking to develop their skills in composition through coaching and mentoring.
As part of the program, the composers will receive a range of training, including a series of masterclasses and workshops covering advanced composition techniques, industry insights, and advice from professional musicians and contemporary composers.
In addition, they will be allocated a Composers' Academy mentor, from whom they will receive 1:1 support. Their music will be rehearsed by an ensemble of Philharmonia musicians, and there will be opportunities to receive feedback.
Ultimately, the composers' works will be performed in a concert at London's Royal Festival Hall, and they will receive a professional recording of the piece, released on NMC Recordings.
Applicants should be early-career composers who have completed their undergraduate studies but are not yet established professionally. They should send three examples of their work (as both sound file and score), and selected applicants will be invited to a remote interview to talk more about their music and goals.
The deadline for applications is Monday, July 7, 2025. You can find out more and apply here.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the selected composers," said Anna Clyne, the Philharmonia's Featured Composer for the 2022/23 season. "The opportunity to workshop their music with world class musicians and to refine their work as part of the process, and to have a performance in such a revered venue, and to receive high quality recordings."
