This full-time role is a one-year appointment as of the 2023/24 concert season, with the potential for renewal
Founded in 1922 the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) performs throughout the city and western New York State under the leadership of music director Andreas Delfs and principal pops conductor Jeff Tyzik. RPO’s programs include educational initiatives, diverse family and Sunday matinees, the annual Nutcracker Ballet, plus a range of summer concerts.
The successful candidate will conduct various family and holiday programs and cover conductor assignments as made by Delfs. The role also involves serving as music director of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO), which comprises around 100 students in grades eight to 12.
Preferred requirements of the role include a master’s degree in conducting or an Artist’s Diploma, relevant orchestral conducting experience, and strong public speaking skills. The candidate should be available for the majority of the RPO’s 38-week season and reside in the metropolitan area of Rochester, New York.
The position’s yearly remuneration ranges between $55,000 and $65,000, including a high-deductible health insurance plan and a standard care and insurance package.
