The Juilliard School in New York has today announced the appointment of the Argus Quartet as their new graduate resident string quartet – beginning September 2017.
The ensemble, comprising violinists Jason Issokson and Clara Kim, violist Dana Kelley and cellist Joann Whang, previously served as the Fellowship Quartet at Yale School of Music and as the graduate quartet in residence at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts.
The Argus Quartet will succeed the Verona Quartet – who will be graduating from the school in May of this year.
As part of the Artist Diploma programme, the ensemble will study with the members of the Juilliard String Quartet and will assist the group with chamber music and teaching duties.
Previous Juilliard graduate quartets in residence have included the Aeolus, Avalon, Chiara, Corigliano, Miró, St. Lawrence, Shanghai – and VC Artists Attacca Quartet.
The Argus Quartet will give the Lisa Arnhold Memorial Recital in May 2018 at Alice Tully Hall, in New York City.
