A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, where he studied with Ida Kavafian, Jaime Laredo and Itzhak Perlman, Josef is a former prize winner at the Michael Hill, Kocian, Queen Elisabeth and Carl Nielsen International Violin Competitions.
He has appeared with numerous orchestras worldwide including the Orchestre de Paris, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg.
In 2011, Josef became the concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the youngest in the orchestra's history. He left this post at the end of the 2019/20 season to devote himself exclusively to his solo career.
