Canadian violinist Nikki Chooi currently masters a multifaceted career as Concertmaster of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and a soloist.

A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, Nikki is a recipient of prizes at the Queen Elizabeth and Tchaikovsky Competitions, and was awarded 1st Prize Winner of the Montreal Symphony's ManuLife Competition, the Klein International Strings Competition, and the Michael Hill International Violin Competition.

Nikki has received critical acclaim in recent engagements at the Harris Theater in Chicago, Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Carnegie Hall and Kauffman Center in New York, Koerner Hall in Toronto, Place des Arts in Montreal, as well as appearing as a soloist with orchestras across Canada and internationally with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic, St. Petersburg State Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Wallonie, National Orchestra of Belgium, Auckland Philharmonia, Malaysian Philharmonic, and Hong Kong Philharmonic. He is a former member of genre-breaking ensemble Time for Three - and served as Concertmaster of New York's Metropolitan Opera Orchestra during the 2016/2017 season.

Reuniting with family after not seeing them in over a year was the highlight of 2021.
What are some challenges you have faced during your study of classical music?
The challenges I’ve faced over the years is to find inspiration and to keep being inspired.
Which industry figure inspires you most? Why?
To me, Yo Yo Ma is a model citizen and inspires me as an human being, artist, and musician.

When I am focused, I get things done quickly I am able to adapt to new surroundings quickly I can cook crazy good beef ribs I’m the best rice cooker People have said that I come off friendly and pleasant
