Violinist SongHa Choi
South Korean violinist SongHa Choi is gaining traction as a young artist to watch. She has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Lithuanian National Symphony, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Changwon Philharmonic, Sinfonia of Cambridge, Orchestra Sinfonica del Friuli Venezia Giulia and Westminster Philharmonic.
She is a major prize winner at prestigious international competitions, such as the Montreal International Violin Competition (2nd Prize, Audience Award, Sonata Prize, Commission Piece Prize), Yehudi Menuhin Violin Competition (Senior 2nd Prize and the Audience Award), the Premio Lipizer International Violin Competition (2nd Prize, the Bach Prize, and the Sonata Prize), Berlin International Music Competition (Grand 1st Prize) and Jeunesses Musicales International Violin Competition (1st Prize).
She has recently given solo performances in venues including the Berliner Philharmonie, the Royal Festival Hall in London, Maison Symphonique in Montreal, Seoul National Arts Centre, the National Philharmonic Hall in Vilnius, and the Wigmore Hall in London — and will perform this season on stages such as the Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
She has been featured on numerous live media, including BBC Radio 3, BBA Arts, Medici TV Bulgarian National Radio, Classic FM, Euro Radio Channel, and Concertgebouw Spiegelzaal Live Radio. Festival highlights include solo appearances at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Varna Music Festival in Bulgaria, Keman Günleri Festival in Turkey, and Wimbledon Festival in the UK.
She has also actively participated in Verbier Festival Academy, Kronberg Academy Violin Festival, Gstaad String Academy, Tsinandali Festival Academy, and Four Seasons Winter Workshops, working with musicians such as Robert Levin, Gabor Takacs Nagy, Michel Beroff, Pinchas Zuckerman, Frans Helmerson, Alina Ibragimova, and Andras Keller.
SongHa is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, in the class of Professor Kolja Blacher, after graduating from the Yehudi Menuhin School in the UK. Her current instrument is on generous loan from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
