Arts Alliance Mountain Empire Names Arts Educator Award for 2023
The Tennessee-based award was given to Dr. Kellie Brown to honor her lifetime of service in the field of education
Violinist, conductor, and music educator Dr. Kellie Brown has been named the 2023 recipient of the Arts Achievement Award for Arts Educator — which is given each year by the Tennessee-based Arts Alliance Mountain Empire (AAME).
A professor at Milligan University since 1998, Brown has worked with students from preschool age right through to university age over the course of her thirty-year career.
As a conductor, she leads the Milligan Orchestra and has conducted a number of world premieres.
A world-renowned expert on music and the Holocaust, Brown's most recent book is titled The Sound of Hope: Music as Solace, Resistance and Salvation during the Holocaust & World War II.
"I am honored to receive this award from AAME," said Brown. "Their tireless work to advocate for the arts and artists in our region remains vital. I also want to acknowledge that I stand on the shoulders of so many important teachers and mentors in my life, without whom, my successes would not have been possible."
