London Symphony Orchestra — Principal Second Violin
First round audition recordings for this position must be submitted by April 4, 2023
The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is seeking applications for the position of Principal Second Violin. All applications, including a video recording of the first round repertoire, should be received by April 4, 2023.
For the first, pre-recorded audition round, candidates should perform the exposition of any Mozart concerto, followed by approximately the first two minutes of any other contrasting concerto. No piano accompaniment is required. There are two orchestral excerpts in this round: passages from Brahms's Symphony No. 4 and Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.
To mimic the conditions of a blind audition, the visual aspect of the audition video will be removed.
At the second, live round, the excerpt list is much more extensive, and that list can be found here. These auditions will take place in May or June, and will determine which players are invited to trial with the orchestra.
Founded in 1904, the LSO is the oldest of the symphony orchestras based in London. The ensemble is based at the Barbican Centre and the Royal Albert Hall, and Sir Simon Rattle is presently the Music Director.
