Australian Chamber Orchestra Launches New Streaming Platform

The ensemble has launched ACO On Demand, a streaming service involving films, concerts, recordings, and behind-the-scenes footage

Founded in 1975, the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) has since become a major cultural export, performing over 100 concerts annually in prestigious venues around Australia and the world.

The launch of its new digital streaming platform, ACO On Demand, is part of the ensemble’s continual expansion into digital, multimedia and cinematic platforms.

ACO On Demand will allow its global audiences access to full-length live concert streams, ARIA Award-winning audio recordings, plus its award-winning ACO StudioCast films, featuring ACO’s unique programming and dynamic performances.

Exclusive behind-the-scenes footage will also be accessible — providing insight into the concerts and the ACO musicians, plus their guest artists and collaborators.

Registration is free for short videos and extras. Individual videos including StudioCast films can be rented from $9.99 AUD for seven days.

The launch of the streaming service will also see the release of The Four Seasons later this year. It is the eighth film in ACO StudioCasts, which also comprises experimental multimedia music hybrid productions including Musica Surfica and The Reef, Luminous, Mountain, and River.

Directed by Matisse Ruby and with cinematography by Jeremy Rouse and editing by Phoenix Chisholm, The Four Seasons features ACO’s acclaimed cross-cultural collaboration with oud virtuoso Joseph Tawadros and riq player James Tawadros

“The ACO’s performance of The Four Seasons is nothing short of mesmerizing, delivering a powerful and intense rendition that breathes new life into this timeless classic,” Ruby said of the StudioCast film. “As a director, my goal was to create a visual language, that would complement and elevate the ACO's extraordinary talent, without distracting from the Orchestra’s brilliance.

“Collaborating with Richard Tognetti and the ACO was truly inspiring and together, we’ve forged a deeply emotional and visually stunning tribute to The Four Seasons that not only highlights the ACO’s artistry but reflects my own passion for crafting memorable cinematic experiences.”

“After a decade of filmmaking, a season of concert films was a natural evolution for the ACO,” added ACO artistic director Richard Tognetti. “These aren’t simply static recreations of a concert hall experience, but bespoke films that provide a new perspective on how we appreciate and understand music.”
