BBC Music Magazine Announces New Editor
Charlotte Smith will take on the role in January 2022 in BBC Music Magazine‘s 30th anniversary year
Born in Australia, Smith comes from a family of musicians with whom she performed chamber music from a young age. She earned a degree in violin performance from London's Royal College of Music, followed by an MA in English from Cambridge University.
For the past 15 years, she has worked in editorial roles at Gramophone Magazine and The Strad, and as a freelance arts writer. She became The Strad's Editor in 2017 and since then has worked to develop and integrate the brand's print and digital platforms.
"I’m delighted to be taking on the role of BBC Music Magazine's editor at a particularly exciting time, as the brand approaches its 30th birthday," Charlotte Smith.
"The magazine gave me my first taste of music journalism shortly after leaving university, and this has paved the way for so many wonderful musical encounters over the years. Therefore, it seems especially appropriate that I return to BBC Music Magazine at this point, ready to build on its prestigious reputation. I understand the loyalty and affection that BBC Music Magazine's substantial community of readers has for the brand and want nothing more than to continue to provide informative and entertaining content across all platforms as we look to the future," she added.
Andrew Davies, Managing Director, IM Specialist, said: “I am absolutely delighted to be welcoming Charlotte to lead BBC Music Magazine in the next phase of its exciting evolution. Charlotte brings an enormous amount of knowledge, experience, and energy to the role and will be leading a superb, well-established team when she takes up the post in January 2022."
Charlotte Smith will commence her role at BBC Music Magazine on January 10, as the team prepares for its March 2022 issue.
