BBC Proms Announces 2025 Programming
The season features 86 concerts, 19 premieres, and soloists including Hilary Hahn, Lisa Batiashvili, and Janine Jansen
The BBC has announced its 2025 lineup for the BBC Proms, which is set to run between Friday, July 18 and Saturday, September 13 2025. There will be a total of 86 Proms, with 72 of those taking place at the Royal Albert Hall and the remaining 14 at other venues across the UK.
The First Night of the Proms is led by the Finnish conductor Sakari Oramo, and he will be joined by tenor Caspar Singh, baritone Gerald Finley, and violinist Lisa Batiashvili. On the program is the Sibelius Violin Concerto, as well as Vaughan Williams's Sancta civitas — and the world premiere of The Elements by Master of the King’s Music Errollyn Wallen.
The Last Night of the Proms contains two world premieres, of works by Camille Pépin and Rachel Portman (who is the first woman to win an Academy Award for Best Original Score). The concert will be led by conductor Elim Chan, and also features trumpeter Alison Balsom and soprano Louise Alder.
Across the season, a number of major orchestras from outside the UK will feature, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Soloists will include pianists Yunchan Lim and Sir András Schiff, violinists Hilary Hahn and Janine Jansen, and soprano Golda Schultz.
The season also foregrounds contemporary music, and will include nineteen world, European or UK premieres — including 10 works commissioned by the BBC.
Nearly 50 of the Proms will feature the BBC's own orchestras and choirs, with the BBC Singers featuring especially prominently. The choir will sing a broad range of repertoire across 11 different Proms, including at the First and Last Nights.
"With 86 concerts across eight weeks, I am delighted to be announcing the 2025 BBC Proms season," said Sam Jackson, Controller of Radio 3 and the BBC Proms. "Our summer of live music will see us host the greatest international orchestras and the best of British talent, in repertoire that ranges from the much-loved to the entirely new. As ever, every note will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Sounds, with 25 programs featuring across BBC TV and iPlayer."
