World Premiere to be Performed by Beatboxing and Street Dance Fusion
The world premiere of The Missing Element will take place at Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s Peter B. Lewis Theater.
Commissioned by the arts series Works & Process, the integrative work aims to broaden the representation of historically marginalized performing art cultures. Therefore, the work merges rap, beatbox, and breakdance with the theater’s circular architecture.
The Missing Element was developed during the pandemic in Works & Process bubble residencies at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park and received support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
While highlights of the commission were performed in New York such as at Lincoln Center and NY PopsUp, the upcoming showcase is their long-awaited and fully-produced world premiere of the work.
Creative directors of the program comprise Chris Celiz, a world champion beatboxer, and b-boy Anthony Vito Rodriguez, who involved fellow artists and dancers Krumper Brian “Hallow Dreamz” Henry; Joseph Carella “Klassic” and King Havoc; Graham Reese “B-boy Kilo” and Rodriguez; as well as filmmaker Kash Gaines and members of The Beatbox House — a collective of world champion beatboxers.
The Missing Element is set as an immersive experience to allow audiences to explore elements such as earth, wind, fire, water, and space. The production will also be touring between July 11 and 17, 2022, in Long Island’s East End.

Led by producer Caroline Cronson and executive director Duke Dang, Works & Process is the Guggenheim's performing arts series.
Works & Process’s Spring 2022 season will also feature several official world premieres of works created by New York artists. Alongside these, the organization will be presenting artist discussions about the new works prior to their premieres at leading arts companies including Glimmerglass Festival, The Metropolitan Opera, and the New York City Ballet.
