NEW TO YOUTUBE | Roman Kim Performs Beethoven’s 5th Symphony for Solo Violin

Recorded in Bonn at La Redoutte, Green Salon, violinist Roman Kim plays on the Alexander Hazin 2015 “Superior” violin in his newest video.

Beethoven wrote his Symphony No. 5 between 1804 and 1808 and was premiered at Vienna's Theater an der Wien in 1808. The opening bars of the work have propelled this piece into fame outside the realm of classical music.

This video is one of Kim's many video transcription projects. At 19 years old, he transcribed the "Air" by Bach from the Third Orchestral Suite and adapted all four parts of Bach's score for a single violin. Music publisher Bärenreiter published the transcription in 2015, which sold out within months.

With a scholarship from the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation, Kim studied with Maxim Vengerov and attended masterclasses with Midori, Lewis Kaplan, Miriam Fried, and Gidon Kremer, while continuing to give concerts in major halls in Russia, Western Europe, and South Korea. In 2008, Roman Kim was accepted at the age of 16 at the Musikhochschule in Cologne, where he studied with Prof. Viktor Tretyakov.
