Berlin Philharminic’s Principal Flute Sébastian Jacot to Depart
Sébastian Jacot, who has been with the orchestra since November 2022, will depart later in the year
Born in Geneva, Switzerland, Sébastian Jacot has played with the Berlin Philharmonic as Principal Flute since November 1, 2022, succeeding Mathieu Dufour.
Jacot comes from a family of musicians and studied at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Genève with Jacques Zoon. He began his orchestral career in 2006 as assistant principal flute with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
He also played in principal positions at Japan’s Saito Kinen Festival and with the Ensemble Contrechamps in Geneva before joining the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in November 2015.
Additionally, he is the winner of several international competitions, including the ARD Music Competition, and performs as a soloist with orchestras including the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, and the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Berlin Philharmonic has once again opened its Principal Flute position; the application deadline is January 15, 2025, with auditions to be held from March 6–7, 2025.
