Birmingham's Leamington Music Prize Won by All-Female Program
England's Royal Birmingham Conservatoire hosts the Leamington Music Prize annually, and this year saw three chamber groups compete the first prize. Coming out on top was the Félicité Piano Trio, which, formed in 2018, consists of violinist Ricardo Brown Roger, cellist Lucy Samuels, and pianist Lucy Eccleshall.
Alongside their prize money, the Félicité Piano Trio will receive a concert appearance in the Leamington Music Winter season, where they will bring their program of music by Clara Schumann and Lili Boulanger to a wider audience.
The prize is awarded by Leamington Music, a local organization that runs an annual festival, as well as a winter concert series and a thriving education program. In addition, Leamington Music also supports a visual artist in residence.
“Over the years, we at Leamington Music have been pleased to support many talented musicians from the Conservatoire," said Leamington Festival director Richard Phillips.
"They have been from various parts of the world, and we try to help them not only with actual concerts, but advice on marketing themselves and securing further work. The Prize money has very sensibly been used on occasions to attend courses which broaden experience."
