Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Names New Artistic Director & Principal Conductor
Italian conductor Carlo Tenan will step into the Principal Conductor position at the opening of the 2024/25 season
The Italian conductor Carlo Tenan has recently been named as the new Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIPO). He will begin in the Artistic Director role from October 1, 2023, and will be the orchestra's principal conductor from the opening of the 2024/25 season in September of that year.
Tenan has appeared with orchestras such as Rome’s Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the orchestra of the Konzerthaus Berlin. With operatic repertoire, he works frequently at the Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg.
He is also the founder of the Wunderkammer Orchestra — a new ensemble focused on chamber-orchestra playing.
Tenan studied conducting, piano, oboe, composition, and electronic music, and began his conducting career as the assistant to Sir Antonio Pappano, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Lorin Maazel.
"We will explore new musical horizons, push the boundaries of our creativity, and continue to touch hearts with our performances," Tenan said. "Together, we will make the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra shine even more brightly on the global stage.
"I want to thank in particular our loyal audience for their unwavering support. It is their presence, their applause, and their shared love for music that fuel our passion. Together, we will embark on this exciting journey of music, and I promise you that the best is yet to come."
