British Violinist John Georgiadis Has Died, Aged 81

The violinist led the London Symphony Orchestra as concertmaster from 1965 to 1973 and then again from 1977 to 1979

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, he spent two years leading the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra before joining the LSO in 1965, at the age of just 26.

A founding member of the London Virtuosi, he performed in the Gabrieli String Quartet in addition to serving as the Music Director of the Bristol Sinfonia, Director of Orchestral Studies at the Royal Academy of Music, and conductor of the Essex Youth Orchestra.

The London Symphony Orchestra website reads, "John took his movie camera with him on many of the LSO tours in the 1960s and these are available to view on YouTube. Our thoughts are with his wife Monica, family and friends at this sad time."

Our condolences to Mr. Georgiadis' family, friends, colleagues, and students.
