Bruckner Orchestra Linz Appoints New Guest Conductor
Lithuanian conductor, Giedrė Šlekytė, will be the next guest conductor of the Austrian-based orchestra
Starting in the 2021-22 season, Ms. Šlekytė will succeed conductor Bruno Weil.
In April 2019 during the "AK Classics" series, Ms. Šlekytė conducted the orchestra with works by Mozart and Mendelssohn, impressing the audience, press, and ensemble.
She has experience conducting the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of France, among many others.
She is a former prize-winner of the 2015 International Malko Competition and was also awarded "Newcomer of the Year" at the International Opera Awards in 2018.
"After two formative encounters in St. Florian and Linz, I am delighted to have been invited to join the family of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz as the first guest conductor," Ms. Šlekytė said. "For me, this orchestra and the entire team are the best examples of creativity, openness, and artistic freedom.
"To regularly share the stage with the BOL for the next few years, to bring some of my favorite works to Linz, and to continue growing as a conductor is a wonderful gift."
